The Truest Reference
The RS10 was meticulously designed with multiple new techniques over a time-consuming development process to ensure that it exactly reproduces the sound heard by mastering engineers. To achieve the ideal performance, Softears had to commission proprietary drivers and create an unmatched hybrid crossover.
Bespoke Crossover Design
The Softears RS10 uses a 5-way crossover design that features excellent performance in regards to the frequency-time domain as well as impedance, which even challenges high-end reference loudspeaker designs. This crossover consists of 2 band-pass filters, a low-pass, and even a 4th order LC filter to precisely control the impedance and frequency characteristics. As a result, the RS10 has near-perfect phase-impedance consistency across the audible frequencies. Softears especially focused on reproducing the higher midrange frequencies so that they precisely match the natural hearing of human ears under studio conditions.
The complex crossover design of the RS10 was painstakingly streamlined by Softears' engineers to bring it down to 15 components into two modules. This further optimization process minimizes interference between the components and increases the efficiency so that the RS10 is less difficult to drive.
Flat Impedance
The RS10 is designed to be compatible with sources that have high output power. With an ultra-low impedance fluctuation across the audible spectrum, Softears made sure that the sound signature will not be changed due to different output impedances from the amplifier.
Passive and Proprietary Drivers
One of the major creative designs in Softears’ lineup is the implementation of passive units. These drivers vibrate passively with respect to the other BA units to reduce air pressure. This reduces ear fatigue and improves bass texture. Of course, these passive drivers are not included in the model’s driver count.
To achieve the ideal frequency characteristics of our design, we had to commission two different sets of dual drivers to handle the excellent mid-high frequency performance of the RS10.
Design Concept
The RS10 aims to reproduce the sound in mastering studios on the highest level possible. Its performance specifications are designed to reproduce the real timbre, pin-accurate imaging, truthful soundstage, and immersion as intended by the mastering engineer. Softears' “Reference Sound 10” is ready for all who have experience with studio speaker systems.
